This item has a Codex entry: Operation Albion
"Partake in the skirmishes of the Albion assault in a freezing archipelago. In this massive invasion of the Baltic peninsula, the German Empire attacks with infantry, dreadnoughts, and aircraft against the heavy coastal gun batteries of the Russian forces."

News Article - Battlefield.com

Albion is a map featured in the Battlefield 1: In The Name Of The Tsar expansion.

Overview

The map consists of a number of large islands near a coastline, where Russian coastal batteries are installed. A German Navy battle group lays siege to the area.

Wooden footbridges link some of the islands together, but these may be destroyed by torpedoes or other ordnance. Though they can also be rammed by watercraft, they generally will not survive the impact.

Thus far, the Y-Lighter naval landing craft appears exclusively on this map, used primarily by the German team.

Behemoths

Unique to this map is the appearance of different Behemoths for each faction.

If the German Empire is at a disadvantage, they will receive the Dreadnought as their Behemoth. However, if the Russian Empire is at a disadvantage, they will be reinforced with an Airship L30.

German Deployment

The German team deploys from behind a chain of small islands far west.

Snipers can potentially attack targets at the lighthouse island and possibly near Zerell Battery 40, but are otherwise far from battle. To the north is a small island that provides a similar view, but of less tactical value.

Sworbe Lighthouse

North end of an outer island, where a lighthouse stands to warn passing vessels. The lighthouse offers a nice perch, but can be quickly toppled.

Fishing Village

South end of the outer island.

A footbridge runs between this location and Zerell Battery 43.

Keese Island

A central small island.

Zerell Battery 43

South coastal artillery emplacement on an inner island with taller terrain.

Zerell Battery 40

North coastal artillery station.

Osel Beach

West shore of the inner island, directly facing Keese Island, and downhill of the radio antenna.

Radio Station

[Conquest] East shore of the inner island, with three buildings much closer to sea level, and a small pier.

[Domination] Further uphill, between the radio antenna and Zerell Battery 40.

Command Post

West shore of the mainland, protected by trenches. A footbridge crosses the channel towards the inner island.

Russian Deployment

End of a road from the mainland, outside of the trench network.

Conquest

Reminiscent of Gulf of Oman, the German team begins the match offshore on a destroyer, using small vessels to reach shore; while the Russians begin on the mainland and must island-hop.

Along with naval craft, both teams have access to airplanes.

Domination

On smaller game modes, battle takes place on the inner island. Although including the Zerell batteries, neither of the coastal guns are present.

Rush

On Albion, Rush takes place across four sectors, with Germans attacking Russian positions. It is one of a handful of maps where the attacking team makes an amphibious landing. The sectors run wide and shallow, allowing vessels to set up wide flanks.

Sector 1

The Germans start the match with four Y-Lighters and a M.A.S. Torpedo Boat. Throughout the match, they retain a few of the Y-Lighters and the torpedo boat for further landings.

The Russians have no vehicles to defend their posts south of Sworbe Lighthouse.

Sector 2

The Germans advance south along the outer island towards a Fishing Village, and a small outpost at Keese Island.

The Russians gain access to the 305/52 O Coastal Guns at the Zerell Batteries.

Sector 3

Attackers must cross another channel to reach Russian telegraphs kept between the Zerell Batteries.

The east (back) side of the island remains out of bounds for attackers, allowing defenders to move unseen at the rear. The attackers can potentially use the coastal guns themselves, but can easily be targeted by defenders' artillery.

Sector 4

The Russians fall back to the mainland, where they attempt to defend the Command Post.

Trivia

  • The internal name for this map in Community Test Environment is MP_Islands.
  • The faction name Russian Empire used within the context of Operation Albion is a mild misnomer, as during Operation Albion, Tsar Nicholas II had already abdicated, and the Russian Provisional Government was in control of the Russian Army that engaged the German Empire forces during Operation Albion. A more correct name would instead be "Russian Republic".
  • Ösel is the German name for Saaremaa, largest of the Estonian islands, and one of the objectives of Operation Albion. The island would again be occupied during World War II as part of Operation Beowulf.
