A battle rifle is a rifle capable of automatic fire with a full power rifle cartridge, like the 7.62x51mm NATO round, from a detachable box magazine. Battle rifles fall in between Assault rifles and fully fledged Machine Guns in terms of power, usually sacrificing controllability and close-quarter effectiveness for stopping power and range. Because of their effectiveness range, battle rifles are sometimes repurposed as Designated Marksman Rifles in modern militaries.
Battle rifles appear many installments off the Battlefield series, but usually are not sorted into a unique category. Instead, they are often paired together with assault rifles or Light machine guns/Squad Support weapons. Generally, the weapons are balanced to do high damage and be very accurate when aimed down sight, but usually have low fire rates, heavy recoil, and inaccurate hipfire, causing them to at times struggle in close quarters.
