"At the Palm Courts Mall in downtown Miami, the summer “Shop ‘til You Drop” promotion has taken on a twisted new meaning. Gone are the throngs of manic shoppers picking clean every shelf, and fighting each other off for a chance to score a ten percent discount. In their place are a phalanx of elite police officers, squared off against an entrenched gang of thieves caught in a heist-gone-wrong."

— Official description

Trivia[]

  • The map is based on the mall from episode 4 of single player, Case Closed.
  • In Case Closed, there was a store called "Sweetwater", a reference to Terrence Sweetwater from Battlefield: Bad Company. However, in this map, although it is listed at the mall entrance map, in its alleged location, it has been replaced by a tea shop called "Zittlé", likely a reference to Kevin Zittle, one of the game's developers.[2] [3]
  • A store known as "Never 40" features mannequins wearing an Intermediate Engineer RIG helmet from Dead Space, which was also developed by Visceral Games. The same store also features another RIG suit helmet and as well as a statue of a Marker.
    • Although the "Never 40" brand is fictitious, it is likely a pun on the real life clothing store "Forever 21"
  • A store in the mall is called "Captain Monkey Pants". This is a reference to Ian Milham, the game's creative director, who goes by the moniker "Monkey Pants" online. There is a similarly named store on Downtown.
  • A jewellery store in the mall is named "Miami Ice", in reference to the TV show Miami Vice, which Hardline takes some inspiration from.
  • The mall features a store known as "Hot Wire", referencing the Hotwire gamemode which is unavailable on the map.
  • One of the mall stores is "Lars of Sweden", referencing Lars Gustavsson of DICE. This is also seen on Bank Job and Downtown, and in the singleplayer level Checking Out.
  • Another mall store is called "Ishimura", after the USG Ishimura, the setting of the first Dead Space game.
  • There is a billboard advertising a show called “The Dead Rise”, a spoof of the real-life TV show “The Walking Dead”. A similar advertisement is found on a skyscraper in the single player level Independence Day, and on a wall in the multiplayer level Downtown.[4] [5]
  • In the game files this map is named xp1_mallcops.
