Shotguns are weapons designed for primarily close quarters and shoot out many small pellets generally, such as buckshot, but can use different ammo types such as slug rounds which are simply one large bullet. Shotguns can range from pump action to fully automatic in firing and are very deadly in close quarters when used with buckshot or a similar type of ammo in which many pelllets are spread out. Shotguns are also the only type of weapon in the battlfield series to feature changable ammo types with slugs being equipable in Battlfield Bad Company 2 and with a variety of types in Battlfield 3.
