"Located off the coast of Lebanon, the Devil's Perch was once a sanitarium but has since been abandoned. MEC Special Forces have moved in and are using it as an intelligence base to gather information on nearby European countries. Having made this discovery, the U.S. is sending in the Navy SEALs under the cover of night to clear out the MEC threat. The battle will be swift and fierce, but the team that can perform expertly on rugged terrain and use the dark to their advantage will be victorious."

— Map Briefing

Devil's Perch is a map featured in the Battlefield 2 expansion pack, Special Forces. It features a United States Navy SEALs assault on a MEC Special Forces intelligence base.

Overview[]

Devil's Perch is comprised of one main island in the west, and a small chain of smaller islands to the east. In the 16-player variant, only the main island is playable: a fairly linear progression winding up from the SEALs start to the Asylum. In 32-player mode, the MEC SF retains control of most of the islands at start except for a base in the far east. In 64-player mode, the map is largely the same as in the 32-player variant, except that the easternmost base is capturable and instead, the SEALs begin with a submarine as an uncapturable base.

In all versions, the game type is conquest assault. For Vehicle Drops, the SEALs get an AIL Raider while the MECSF get a FAV.

16-Player Variant[]

The default number of tickets is 110 for the SEALs and 100 for the MEC SF.

Village Centre[]

The starting SEAL base, which is uncapturable, located to the northeast of the main island, on top of a fountain in the village. It spawns two ATV, an AIL Raider, three Jet Skis, a RIB, an LAV-25, as well as the artillery, radar station and UAV trailer.

Upper Village[]

A control point at the southeast of the main island. When captured by the SEALs, it will spawn two TOW, an ATV, an AIL Raider, two Pickup Trucks, and two stationary M249 LMG. When captured by the MECSF, it will spawn two HJ-8, an ATV, an FAV, two Pickup Trucks, and two stationary RPK-74 LMG.

Church[]

Going uphill and turning back north we reach this neutral control point, behind the church structure itself. It spawns only an ATV for both teams.

Asylum Gates[]

An MEC SF control point inside the Asylum Gates. The gates can be opened by anyone from the inside. However, if the gates are locked, the control point must be accessed via the Asylum control point (below). It spawns two ATV and a Pickup Truck for both teams. Additionally, it spawns an AIL Raider for the SEALs and a FAV for the MEC SF.

Asylum[]

An MEC SF control point in the northwest. It can be reached in two ways: either by turning west from the Church, or starting from the SEAL Base (Village Center) and taking watercraft around the north of the island, and finally climbing up the stairs. Either way, the Asylum is accessed from behind, and the front gate of the building is locked.

It spawns a RIB, a stationary RPK-74, a Jet Ski, as well as the MEC SF artillery, radar station and UAV trailer.

32-Player Variant[]

The default number of tickets is 220 for the SEALs and 200 for the MEC SF.

Hydroelectric Plant[]

The SEAL starting base, now on a pair of islands to the east of the main island. On the southern island, there spawn three RIB, a Jet Ski, the radar station and two artillery pieces. On the northern island, there spawn two Jet Skis, an LAV-25 and two RIB, as well as the UAV trailer. Two of the Jet Skis have the restriction that only two from each location will appear on the map at any given time.

Lower Village[]

A control point on the northeast of the main island, starting further north and lower than the 16-player version's SEAL base. Under SEAL control it will spawn an AIL Raider, two ATV, a Pickup Truck, a RIB, a Jet Ski, a TOW and an M249 LMG. Under MEC SF control it will spawn a FAV, two ATV, a Pickup Truck, a RIB, a Jet Ski, a HJ-8 and an RPK-74 LMG. Only two Jet Skis from this control point can appear on the map at any given time.

Upper Village[]

An MEC SF control point in the center-east of the main island. As its name suggests, it is located at the highest point of the village, to the south of the Lower Village. Under MEC SF control, it spawns an ATV, a Pickup Truck, two RPK-74 LMG, a HJ-8 and a RIB. Under SEAL control, it will spawn an ATV, an AIL Raider, two M249 LMG, a TOW and a RIB.

Guard House[]

An MEC SF control point at the direct south of the main island. Under MEC SF control, it spawns an ATV, two Pickup Trucks, a HJ-8 and two RPK-74 LMG. Under SEAL control, it will spawn an ATV, a Pickup Truck, an AIL Raider, a TOW and an M249 LMG. Only two ATV from this control point can appear on the map at any given time.

Church[]

An MEC SF control point located behind the church itself, in the same location as the 16-player version. Again, it only spawns an ATV for both teams.

Asylum[]

An MEC SF control point that serves as the main base. It spawns an ATV, a RIB, two Jet Skis, an RPK-74 LMG and a Pickup Truck, as well as the Radar Station, the UAV trailer, and two artillery pieces. Only two ATV from this control point can appear on the map at any given time.

64-Player Variant[]

The default number of tickets is 330 for the SEALs and 300 for the MEC SF.

Submarine[]

The SEAL main base is on a static submarine to the north of the main island, surrounded by four RIBs, with two TOWs on top. On two islands to the northwest of the submarine are two Jet Skis, as well as two artillery pieces, the Radar Station and UAV trailer. Despite the Jet Skis, there is no spawn point here. The Submarine's position makes it easier for the SEALs to reach the Asylum early in the game, compared to other versions of the map. Only two of each watercraft that start from each position can appear on the map at any given time.

Port Factory[]

A capturable SEAL control point to the far east of the map. It spawns an LAV-25, an AIL Raider, two RIBs, an M249 LMG and an ATV. Under MEC SF control, it will spawn a BMP 3, a Pickup Truck, two RIBs, an RPK-74 LMG and an ATV. Except for the LAV-25 or BMP 3, only two of each vehicle that start from each position can appear on the map at any given time.

Market Square[]

An MEC SF control point on the same landmass as the Port Factory, and to its northwest. It spawns a RIB, an FAV and a HJ-8. Under SEAL control, it will spawn a RIB, an AIL Raider and a TOW. Only two of each vehicle that start from each position can appear on the map at any given time.

Causeway[]

Crossing a bridge westward from either the Port Factory or Market Square, is an MEC SF control point. It spawns a Jet Ski, a RIB, two stationary RPK-74 LMG, a Pickup Truck, an ATV and a HJ-8. Under SEAL control, the HJ-8 will be replaced by a TOW, and the RPK-74 LMG will be replaced by a M249 LMG, but all other vehicles are the same. Only two of each watercraft that start from each position can appear on the map at any given time.

Hydroelectric Plant[]

An isolated island that starts under MEC SF control, which acted as the SEAL main base in the 32-player version. This time, it spawns only two RIBs and two Jet Skis. Only two of each watercraft that start from each position can appear on the map at any given time.

Lower Village[]

A neutral control point that starts in the same position as the 32-player variant. Under SEAL control, it will spawn an LAV-25, two ATVs, an AIL Raider, a RIB, and an M249 LMG. Under MEC SF control, it will spawn a BTR-90, two ATVs, a Pickup Truck, a RIB and an RPK-74 LMG. Only two RIBs that spawn from this point can appear on the map at any given time.

Upper Village[]

A neutral control point that starts in the same position as the 32-player variant. Under SEAL control, it will spawn an ATV, an AIL Raider, a Jet Ski, and two M249 LMG. Under MEC SF control, it will spawn an ATV, a Pickup Truck, a Jet Ski, and two RPK-74 LMG.

Guard House[]

An MEC SF control point that starts in the same position as the 32-player variant. Under SEAL control, it will spawn an ATV, an AIL Raider, a Pickup Truck, a TOW, and two M249 LMG. Under MEC SF control, it will spawn an ATV, two Pickup Trucks, a HJ-8 and two RPK-74 LMG. Only two ATVs from this point can appear on the map at any given time.

Church[]

An MEC SF control point that starts in the same position as the 16- and 32-player variants. It spawns only an ATV for both teams.

Asylum[]

The MEC SF main base in the same position as the 16- and 32-player variants. It spawns a BMP 3, an ATV, a RIB, an RPK-74 LMG, and a FAV, as well as two artillery pieces, the radar station and UAV trailer. Under SEAL control, the BMP 3 will be replaced by an LAV-25, and the FAV by an AIL Raider.

Only two ATVs and RIBs each from this point can appear on the map at any given time.

Singleplayer[]

The singleplayer version resembles the 32-player control point layout combined with the 16-player boundaries. This version is more infantry-focused, and no vehicle drop is available for either team.

Lower Village[]

The SEAL main base. In singleplayer it only spawns an artillery piece, the radar station and the UAV trailer.

Upper Village[]

The first MEC SF control point that the SEALs will face. It spawns no vehicles.

Guard House[]

The MEC SF control point in the south of the map. It spawns two HJ-8 and two RPK-74 LMG. Under SEAL control, it will spawn two TOWs and two M249 LMG.

Asylum[]

This control point has been moved outside of the asylum gates to allow BOT access, and hence becomes the second to last MEC SF control point. It spawns no vehicles.

Church[]

With the Asylum control point moved, the Church now serves as the MEC SF main base. It spawns only an artillery piece, the radar station and the UAV trailer.

Trivia[]

  • This map is featured in the intro movie for Battlefield 2: Special Forces.
  • The Battlefield 2: Special Forces instruction book description for Devil's Perch mentions the Insurgent Forces as the enemies instead of the MEC Special Forces. This has been fixed in the Battlefield 2 Complete Collection manual[1]
    • In the aforementioned intro movie, the MEC SF are shown using the flag of the Insurgent Forces.[2]
    • In addition, in the GamePlayObjects.con files, the object spawners are coded with the string MI_SE. As Insurgent Forces are coded as Meinsurgent, and no other map in Special Forces names object spawners with the teams (though this is commonly done in base Battlefield 2), this suggests that the change from Insurgent Forces to MEC Special Forces was done at a very early stage.
