Overview BF2 P4F BF3 BF4

"A USMC Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) has landed on this Persian Gulf beach during the night in the hopes of quickly seizing the nearby MEC airbase. The stakes are high for both sides. The Marines face possibly being driven into the sea and destroyed. The MEC forces could lose a key airbase and open the door for US forces to take strategic oilfields. Both sides have been using the morning to prepare for a final assault."

Trivia[]

  • Gulf of Oman is the map featured in the demo version of Battlefield 2, in only the 16- and 32-player versions. It is also the map to be loaded when the player runs Battlefield 2 for the first time and chooses "play singleplayer".
  • During development, Gulf of Oman had an Industrial Area control point, but it is now replaced with the Hotel control point. Nevertheless, screenshots that feature the Industrial Area continue to circulate, and even appeared on promotional material well after release.[1]
    • In fact, Info\favoriteMap.png is the image shown on BFHQ if Gulf of Oman is the map that a player played the most on ranked servers, and in that image, traces of the Industrial Area can still be seen beside the Hotel.
  • The localization for Industrial Area can still be found in the same section as those for the other control points added in early stages of development::

Meanwhile, the localization for Hotel is located in a separate section, along with what is believed to be control points also added at a later stage of development:
