Mashtuur City is a map featured in Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Play4Free that takes place in a city and its boundaries and outskirts. The map is essentially the same in both games, albeit the MEC are replaced by the Russian Army in the latter.

In Battlefield 2, it is one of two maps to not have singleplayer support with the release of the game, the other being Kubra Dam.

Battlefield 2[]

"Leading elements of the US ground force must capture Mashtuur City, a primary Middle East axis of advance. In response, MEC units are rushing forward to hold the city at all costs. In this double assault upon a key urban asset, all elements of modern warfare are likely to be deployed, attempting to secure vital CPs that dot the city. Victory will go to the side that controls the majority of Mashtuur when hostilities cease."

Overview[]

The map is divided into two sections via a riverbed and two bridges (both of which are destructible via C4), Most of the city is urban with long range, with the USMC having a minor advantage in height.

When a Vehicle Drop is called, the USMC will get a HMMWV, and the MEC will get a Vodnik.

Trivia[]

  • In the Battlefield 2 variant, there is a highway sign that directs traffic to the nearby Karkand Airport. This is a reference to Strike at Karkand, another map in Battlefield 2.
  • Its working name was "Divided City", seen in early previews of Battlefield 2.
  • Before release, the map featured airfields and fixed-wing aircraft. In the current version, one can still find roads leading to areas that are far out of bounds, where one can see isolated radio towers and irregularly flat terrain, signs that significant structures were once located there. Localization for the airfield flags can still be found in the files.
  • In client.zip there is a file minimap.dds that is not found with other maps. This file seems to be a minimap of the pre-release version of Mashtuur City, complete with airfields shown.
  • "Mashtuur" in Arabic (مشطور) means "split" or "divided".
