Double Cross is a map that was released in Battlefield Hardline: Getaway. It takes place in and around a port-of-entry checkpoint along the Mexico–United States border. It also features many hidden smuggling tunnels that provide ways to cross the border undetected. It is one of the largest maps created for Battlefield Hardline.[1] The map features no central Levolution event, and instead focuses more on small scale tactical destruction.

Overview[]

One of Hardline's more expansive maps, Double Cross is set on the border between southern California and Mexico, and, similar to Battlefield 4's Caspian Border 2014, the map is separated into two halves by the border's large wall. Despite being so large, the map actually has few heavy vehicles with players mostly having access to large transports, and thus caters to more traditional Battlefield infantry gameplay with engagements usually being at medium or long ranges. The map is also very open, offering players many side paths and underground tunnels to flank around choke-points and backcap undefended areas. The several intertwining roads and abandoned trails offer vehicles on the map high mobility as well. Hills and clusters of buildings break up sight lines around objective areas, giving Professionals good lanes on objectives to snipe while still giving close-range Mechanics and shotgun Enforcers room to breathe between bases.

Conquest[]

BFHL DC CQL

BFHL DC CQS

Layout during Conquest Small

Conquest features a mix of light and medium land vehicles as well as transport helicopters, so direct combat is generally between infantry while vehicles are used to ferry players across the large map. Combat tends to be focused at the center points, primarily at US Customs, and units on foot have access to several flanking routes and tunnels to cross the border fence while the enemy is busy at one of the flags.

Five flags are present in Conquest Large, while three are featured in Conquest Small. In both modes, only one RPG-7V2 and one M240B spawn on the map along with several Ziplines and Grappling Hooks; there is notably no Stinger spawn, so the Anti-Air Armory will need to be utilized if the enemy's transport helicopter is becoming an issue.

Deployments[]

SWAT Deployment[]

The SWAT deployment is at a small staging area on the eastern half of the map in California, setup a short ways away from what appears to be a border patrol checkpoint to the east. The Storage base is directly west of the deployment, while the Farm can be accessed by taking the roads heading southwest.

In Conquest Small, the infantry spawn is moved up to the Storage area, while the vehicle spawn remains in the staging area. Law Enforcers can use the Zipline that spawns at Storage to quickly get to Customs or the Farm. The Transport Helicopter is also replaced with a Pursuit Helicopter, Squad Cars replace the Police Trucks, and only a single Police Interceptor spawns.

Thieves Deployment[]

The Thieves's deployment is on the western portion of the map in Mexico, next to a closed down cantina. The Cantina base is directly east of the deployment, and the Mission can be accessed by following the roads heading south-east.

In Conquest Small, the infantry deployment is moved up to the Cantina flag, while the vehicles remain in the same area further back as in Conquest Large. Like with the SWAT deployment, the Zipline inside the Cantina is still present, and can be used by infantry to get the Customs checkpoint or the Mission quicker than on foot. The Executive Helicopter is also replaced with a Response Helicopter, Sports Sedans replace the Heavy Duty Trucks, and only a single Muscle Car spawns.

Flags[]

Cantina[]

The Cantina is the most western base on the map, and the closest to the Thieves's spawn in Conquest Large; in Conquest Small it acts as the infantry spawn for the Thieves. The flag is made up of three main buildings: a CaliCo gas station to the east, a small garage to the west, and the large cantina to the south. A scrapyard is also present to the north; although it is far from the capture zone of the base it can be a useful area for flanking defenders. Despite the name of the flag, the capture area is actually at the gas station, and most combat at the flag takes place here. The garage provides good line of sight on the capture zone but has little cover, while the rooftop of the cantina is an excellent area for defense of the area surrounding the base, but does not actually have line of sight into the gas station. A Zipline pickup spawns inside of the cantina.

US Customs is accessible by heading directly east through the Mexican checkpoint, while the Mission is located to the south. A Limo spawns at the Mexican checkpoint, as well as a M240B Battle Pickup near the sewer tunnel entrance to the US checkpoint.

US Customs[]

US Customs is the most centrally located and heavily contested base on the map, and is usually the first spot where SWAT and Thieves will run into each other. The capture zone is inside and around the main building to the south; due to cramped nature of the building and the trailers parked outside of it, the capture zone is home to very close range firefights and heavy usage of Tear Gas and Incendiary Grenades. Outside of the capture zone, the base is very open and attackers have good sight lines on the outside of the building. Thieves can flank to the north of the border wall and take the broken bridge or opening in the fence to attack the flag, while SWAT can make use of the rocks and hills to the south and east when assaulting the flag. A network of sewer tunnels also provides access into or out of the customs building and can be a useful surprise flanking route. SWAT has a sewer entrance at the southeast corner of the flag, while Thieves enter from under the bridge to the west of the checkpoint.

A Limo spawns to the northeast of the flag and serves as a good point-defense for the flag with its firing port weapons. A Defibrillator pickup spawns in the customs building, while the map's single RPG-7V2 spawns in the sewer tunnels.

Farm[]

The Farm is located south of US Customs and east of the Mission, and is a relatively large base with a small capture area inside of a centrally located farmhouse. The capture zone farmhouse has two stories accessible by either a ladder on the outside of it or on the inside, and has several destructible walls to provide better entry and lines of sight. Once all the walls are destroyed, the capture zone is very exposed can be hard to capture, M18 Smoke Grenades or backup from an SUV can be useful during capture. The surrounding farmhouses provide excellent overwatch positions on the flag, and Grappling Hooks can be used to get to their rooftops to setup up good sniper positions. Bear in mind, however, that most of the buildings at the Farm are made of wood and destructible; heavy fighting in the area will typically destroy all non-solid cover, so staying on the move or finding a solid position is important when the base is under heavy attack.

A Luxury Coupe spawns in a farmhouse to the west between the Farm and the Mission; being the fastest vehicle on the map, it can be very useful for making a quick escape during an attack. To the north of the Coupe spawn is the eastern entrance to the tunnel between the Farm and the Mission, which is a good flanking route to get to the Mission; SWAT defenders at the Farm should keep an eye on the area to stop any Thieves trying to sneak over. A Grappling Hook spawns to the east of the Farm, and can be used to access the rooftops of the farmhouses.

Mission[]

The Mission is to the south of the Cantina and directly west of the Farm, and is an old abandoned Spanish Mission on top of a small hill. The capture zone is located inside of the main mission building and is surrounded by smaller buildings and adobe walls. The Mission building is cramped inside due to large piles of rubble, and attackers have few places to hide except for in the corners. A ladder on the west side of the building allows access to the roof of the mission, which offers a good sniping sight line on the border crossings from the Farm and bridge at Customs, as well as a position to shoot down into the capture area through the hole in the roof. A few trailers to the east provide SWAT some cover to attack the base, but most foot routes are very exposed so the Mobile Command Post or Intervention SUV may be needed to punch through if the base is being defended.

The west entrance to the tunnel between the Mission and the Farm is located to the north in a crumbling adobe house. Unlike the entrance at the Farm, the house gives the tunnel good protection at the side of the flag, so it may be harder for Thieves to spot SWAT units exiting the tunnel from the mission, but the house largely exposed to the west. A Zipline spawns on the Mission rooftop, and can be useful to get to the Farm, Customs, or the Cantina.

Storage[]

Storage is the eastern most flag on the map and the closest to the SWAT deployment, and serves as the infantry deployment for SWAT in Conquest Small. The base is set in a storage warehouse across from a repair garage, and is fenced in similar to US Customs. The large storage house and the garage provide for medium range firefights on the flag, and there is little cover for the capture area outside of the buildings. Due to the more enclosed nature of the flag, vehicles are relatively exposed when taking the main road at the center of the base, and the SUV, MCC, and Limo can provide more assistance while firing on it from outside of the base. The tall hills to the south and west can be particularly devastating positions to setup a vehicle, as they have a good vertical sight line down into the base.

A Zipline spawns inside the garage on a workbench, and is useful for getting to Customs or the Farm quickly by setting it up on the surrounding hills.

Heist[]

In Heist, Thieves are trying to crack two small vaults to recover seized goods at the Mexican checkpoint, while SWAT is responding from US Customs to try and stop them. Battle Pickup spawns are identical to those in Conquest.

Deployments[]

SWAT Deployments[]

At the beginning of the round, SWAT units spawn at US Customs with no vehicle spawns. A Limo spawns nearby however, and the tunnel entrance in the customs building can be used to reach the underside of the bridge or Vault B.

After their initial spawn, SWAT will deploy at their staging area from Conquest Large, and have access to vehicles. SWAT have some advantages in mobility with their vehicles, as they have the only helicopter on the map with the Pursuit Helicopter, and the Mobile Command Post can be used to setup a forward spawn either at Customs near the drop off points or near the vaults if the break-in was stopped.

Thieves Deployments[]

Thieves spawn west of the Mexican checkpoint at the start of the round, and can very quickly reach both vaults to begin the break-in.

Afterwards, the Thieves deployment is pushed back to their base in Conquest Large and their vehicles will now spawn. The Thieves do not have a mobile spawnpoint or helicopter like SWAT, but do have an advantage in firepower with their Armored SUV and in speed with two Coupes as opposed to SWAT's one.

Stage One[]

BFHL DC Heist Stage1

In Stage One, the Thieves must crack the two safes at the checkpoint with the Brute while SWAT need to prevent them from doing so. The drills have a 30-second timer before cracking the safes, so SWAT need to reach the vaults quickly to disable them.

Vault A[]

BFHL DC Heist VA

Vault A

Vault A is located in the southern building at the checkpoint. It is much larger than the northern building and can be harder to push players out of. SWAT can try to flank around to get to the west entrance to surprise the Thieves, while Thieves should push east to keep SWAT from reaching the building. Sabotaging the doors can be an effective means of keeping the initial wave of SWAT out, but be aware that they can still enter through the windows to not trigger the bomb.

Vault B[]

BFHL DC Heist VB

Vault B

Vault B is inside of the northern building, and is slightly easier to defend as there are only two doors from the outside and the tunnel entrance to get into it. Players can also climb the ladder to use the rooftop to fire at SWAT heading from in the east, the AC units provide decent cover to the south and east but is very exposed to the north and west. The M240B also spawns inside of the building, and can be very effective at repelling attackers. SWAT should make use of Gas Grenades or Incendiary Grenades to clear Thieves out of the building long enough to disable the drill.

Stage Two[]

BFHL DC Heist Stage2

After the safes are cracked, the Thieves must now get the loot bags to drop off points on the California side of the border. Two random escape points will activate at a time; if one of the bags is successfully picked up by a chopper then only one will be active.

Escape A[]

BFHL DC Heist EA

Escape A

Escape point A is in the southeast corner of the US Customs checkpoint, and can easily be reached from the vaults by heading directly east. It does, however, require going through the area that SWAT just spawned in, and SWAT vehicles will usually take the main road down to the checkpoint, so expect heavy resistance on this route. Alternatively, using the tunnel entrance at Vault B or under bridge will lead players right to the drop off point through the tunnels and allow them to bypass any vehicles setup at the checkpoint, although if the bag is dropped in the tunnels it can be difficult to recover from Law Enforcement.

Escape B[]

BFHL DC Heist EB

Escape B

Escape point B is to the west of the US Customs checkpoint in a clearing surrounded by shipping containers and a big rig trailer. The area surrounding the point is relatively well covered and provides some good hiding spots while waiting for the helicopter, but the point itself is completely open and players are very likely to be shot while heading for chopper on its arrival. SWAT can setup some positions to the east to keep the area clear, and Thieves can reach the point by either going through the checkpoint or taking the broken bridge to west.

Escape C[]

BFHL DC Heist EC

Escape C

Escape point C is in a small clearing to the east of the Farm. The point has very little cover except for a few crouch-height troughs and a trailer; after calling in the chopper Thieves may want to wait near the shipping container to the west as they'll have better cover. SWAT can use the large farmhouse to the south to keep watch on the point and fire on any Thieves trying to reach it. Using the Grappling Hook pickup nearby to reach the farmhouse's roof can also offer SWAT an excellent overwatch position for the pickup spot. An Offroad Patrol Bike spawns to the north of the point; if SWAT manage to drive off the helicopter here the bag carrier can grab the bike and quickly head for the next escape point before they have a chance to rotate and defend that one.

Squad Heist[]

Squad Heist is set along the main border crossing, with the Thieves attempting to steal a bag of money from a vault at the Mexican checkpoint.

Phase 1[]

BFHL DC SH Phase1

Phase 1

During the first phase, Thieves are trying to steal a satchel of explosives that are locked in a vault at the Cantina. Thieves spawn with the Brute drill in a small marketplace to the west of the Cantina, while SWAT spawns at the Mexican checkpoint. The drill has a 30-second timer once it is placed on the vault; if it is disabled by SWAT it will respawn at the Thieves deployment after another 30 seconds.

Once the vault is cracked, Thieves will have to wait 10 seconds before being allowed to move up, giving SWAT time to setup for Phase 2.

Phase 2[]

BFHL DC SH Phase2

Phase 2

Thieves now need to get the explosives to the Mexican checkpoint to blow open the vault and get the loot bag. SWAT now spawns at the border bridge, while Thieves will now spawn at the Cantina. As with the drill, the C4 charges have a 30-second timer and will respawn at the Cantina 30 seconds after being defused.

Phase 3[]

BFHL DC SH Phase3

Phase 3

In the final phase, Thieves need to make it across the bridge and signal a helicopter to pickup the money. Thieves now spawn at the Mexican checkpoint while SWAT spawns at the eastern end of the US checkpoint.

Hotwire[]

BFHL DC HW

Map layout in Hotwire

In Hotwire, five objective vehicles are present, one at each flag base from Conquest. Deployments and Battle Pickup spawns are unchanged from Heist and Conquest Large. Neither side is given heavy or attack vehicles, with both factions only receiving light ground transports and one Scout Helicopter.

Like with the other modes, the size of the map offers drivers significant freedom and the various side roads provide multiple routes to take with the Hotwired vehicles. Those trying to destroy enemies vehicles can try setting up Breaching Charge or Laser Tripmine traps at one of the three vehicle crossings on the border fence, especially the main one at the port-of-entry bridge.

Deployments and Vaults[]

SWAT Deployment[]

SWAT's vehicle deployment is at the staging area from Conquest Large, while SWAT infantry will spawn at Storage. The Law Enforcement vault is located in one of the farmhouses to the south; an Offroad Patrol Bike and Luxury Coupe also spawn near the farm for quick transport to the pile or the Thieves's vault.

Thieves Deployment[]

Thieves have their vehicle deployment at the same area as in Conquest Large, while infantry will spawn at the Cantina. Their vault is located inside of the Mission to the south, and a Dirt Bike spawns near the vault to quickly get back to the money pile or SWAT's vault. A Zipline also still spawns on top of the Mission roof, which can also be used to get to the pile quickly.

Money Pile[]

The Money Pile is located inside of the US Customs building at the checkpoint, and has several routes to take to it. As the building is rather small and the pile is directly in the center of it, Incendiary Grenades and Gas Grenades are a large threat. A Limo spawns nearby and can be used to defend the pile from the opposing team or to transport money carriers back to the vault.

Capture the Bag[]

BFHL DC CTF

Layout during Capture the Bag

Capture the Bag uses the entirety of the map, although the spawns are moved forward from Conquest so the gamemode focuses primarily on the center of the map. Pickups are removed from Storage, all others remain in their usual spots.

Both teams have access to Scout Helicopters, Coupes, and the improved Sedans to get to the enemy base quickly or intercept bag carriers, while the SUVs and the Limos present at each side's base can be useful for either defending the friendly base or attack the enemy's. Players can head through the border crossing while traversing the map to pickup some extra firepower, with both the M240B and RPG-7V2 in the area.

Deployments and Bags[]

SWAT Deployment[]

SWAT infantry spawn at the Farm, while their vehicle spawn is behind the hills to the east of it. The Bag is inside of the central farmhouse where the capture area is during Conquest, and a Limo spawns in a farmhouse to the south of it.

SWAT can defend the base using the rooftops of the farmhouses surrounding the bag, while Thieves can use the buildings to the west as cover while moving up onto the bag.

Thieves Deployment[]

Thieves use their deployments from Conquest Small, with their vehicles spawning to the west and infantry spawning at the Cantina. The Bag is located inside the Cantina, and a Limo is present in the garage east of the gas station.

Like in Conquest, the area surrounding the base can be relatively well defended from the Cantina rooftop. SWAT can either approach from the south through the Mission or from the east through the border crossing.

Rescue[]

BFHL DC Rescue

Layout during Rescue

Rescue is set at the Farm, with the Thieves having a hostage in two farmhouses at their deployment. SWAT deploys from US Customs, and must get at least one of the hostages back to the Police Cruiser at Customs. Hostage 1 is in the central farmhouse, while Hostage 2 is in the farmhouse to the east.

Since SWAT has to head downhill to get to the Farm, flanking to the west or east may be a better idea than heading straight for it to stay out of sight. The west side of the Farm has a good amount of cover but there is more distance to cover to get the hostages; the eastern flank is closer but is much more open.

Thieves have quite a bit of space to spread out to cover the Farm, and can use the top of the farmhouse that Hostage 1 is in for a good overview of the area. Professionals have a good line of sight on the hill that SWAT has to take to get to the Farm, and pick off players one their way to the base.

Crosshair[]

BFHL DC CH

Layout during Crosshair

Crosshair takes place at the border crossing, with SWAT needing to escort the VIP from the bridge to one of two escape points at the eastern end of the US Checkpoint. The map only has one Weapon Locker with an MG36, which is located behind a small building to the north of the Customs building.

SWAT and the VIP have a few routes to take to the escape cars. Car A can be quickly reached by taking the sewer tunnel, which has an entrance under the bridge, or by flanking to the right outside the fence of the checkpoint. Car B can be reached by taking the hole in the fence to the north and flanking through the loading area. Thieves can set up defensive positions behind the trailers near the escape cars, although having a couple players keeping an eye on the left flank and sewer tunnels is recommended to avoid having SWAT managing to sneak around.

Team Deathmatch / Bounty Hunter[]

BFHL DC TDM

Layout for Team Deathmatch and Bounty Hunter

Team Deathmatch and Bounty Hunter take place in the eastern half of the map, including the US Customs area, the Farm, and the Mission. Several trailers and shipping containers are added on the roads around the Farm as well as at the checkpoint. All Battle Pickups are removed in these modes.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Double Cross" is a dual reference to the term for betrayal, a recurring trope in Hardline, and the fact that the map is set at a border crossing checkpoint.
  • A box of donuts is present on the counter inside of the Cantina, as usual Law Enforcers are able to Spot it.
  • In the game files this map is named xp3_border.
