Knives return in various forms as melee weapons in Battlefield 1. As with Battlefield Hardline, a selection of other melee weapons is also available, including hand tools, clubs, and the swords.
All knives share the same statistics, except the Sawtooth Knife which functions similar to heavy melee weapons. Knives have a damage output of 35 and a speed rating of 90. Knives also have the largest takedown range of all melee weapons.

Takedowns[]
Takedowns occur any time that a melee weapon would inflict lethal damage on an opponent, although rear and prone takedowns can be performed on enemies at any health. Melee weapons inflict less damage to enemies facing the player, but may still result in a takedown.

Right | The attacker grabs the target's shoulder and stabs their heart. The attacker twists the knife, more so than for the front animation. | |
Back | The attacker grabs the target and drives the knife high into their chest. | |
Prone | Front | The attacker kicks the target in the face, then stabs them in the neck. |
Left | The attacker thrusts into the target's side, turning them over slightly, and stabs a second time in the stomach. | |
