The Mancunian-accented Finch is the young and optimistic engineer assigned to "Black Bess". Finch is friendly towards the newly assigned Edwards, who he greets warmly and reassures him of the tank's safety, even defending him when the disgruntled McManus comments on Edwards' glaring lack of experience. Finch also appears superstitious, and considers "Black Bess" as a living individual, believing the tank to disapprove of swearing.

His duties consist primarily of keeping the unreliable machine running - a formidable task considering the conditions. He is also responsible for starting the engine via a large crank shaft, and looking after the tank's carrier pigeon for sending messages in an emergency. In a scene from the single player trailer, Finch and Edwards are sent outside the tank after it is immobilized in the middle of a German infantry assault. Finch is seen opening a vent cover on the tank exterior, and is caught in the fiery backblast of the exhaust. He falls to the ground injured, while Edwards, taking cover behind the tank treads, watches in alarm. Finch attempts to recover but is shot and killed by German infantry. Edwards yells to the crew of Finch's death before picking up the Repair Tool to fix the tank. The crew of Black Bess is then forced to leave Finch's body behind as they continue with their mission.
