A flash suppressor, also known as a flash hider is a device attached to the muzzle of a rifle or other firearm that reduces the visible signature of the burning gases that exit the muzzle, which may also reduce recoil. This reduces the chances that the shooter will be blinded in dark conditions. A secondary benefit of flash suppression is the reduction of the flash visible to the enemy.

Battlefield 3[]

"The Flash Suppressor hides muzzle flash but will not hide the player on the minimap. It also acts as a compensator, decreasing vertical recoil but reducing accuracy from the hip due to their additional weight."

— In-game description

The Flash Suppressor is a weapon attachment featured in Battlefield 3. Unlike the sound suppressor, it hides only the muzzle flash of a weapon and slightly reduces its recoil but it does not affect the bullet drop or damage of the weapon.

Galllery[]

Battlefield 4[]

"Eliminates the flash generated by firing the weapon without the bullet speed penalty of a full-fledged silencer."

— Battlelog description

The Flash Hider is a weapon attachment featured in Battlefield 4, functioning similarly to its Battlefield 3 counterpart.

It is available on all weapons except shotguns, but can only be acquired through Battlepacks. The attachment will eliminate a weapon's muzzle flash, clearing the player's sight picture while firing and making it harder for enemy players to tell where the shots are coming from. However, the Flash Hider also makes a weapon's spread decrease 17% slower while aiming, meaning it takes slightly longer for a weapon to reset to its base accuracy after firing. Because of this, firing in rapid bursts is not recommended with the attachment, as the weapon's accuracy will not recover quite as quickly. Hipfire is not affected by the aiming spread decrease.

Battlefield Hardline[]

BF1 Puzzle Piece This section is a stub. It is short and in need of fortification. Why not improve this section?

"Reduces or eliminates muzzle flash, making it easier to see the target and harder for enemies to observe the shot origin."

— In-game description

The Flash Hider is a weapon attachment featured in Battlefield Hardline. It hides muzzle flash, allowing the user more concealment when engaging in a firefight. It has no statistical changes to weapon function.

Battlefield 1[]

In Battlefield 1, Flash Hiders do not appear by name. However, some Recoil Direction options on some weapons attaches a flash hider to the weapon.[1]

Battlefield V[]

"Reduces muzzle flash, making it harder to spot you when firing."

— In-game Description

Flash Propellant is weapon specialization featured in Battlefield V for all Medium Machine Guns. The specialization equips weapons with a flash hider, which will reduce muzzle flash. This causes the player to become harder to spot when firing their weapon.

Trivia[]

Battlefield 3[]

Battlefield 4[]

  • Interestingly, the handgun variant of the Flash Hider is called PistolMuzzleBreak in the game files, whereas the actual pistol Muzzle Brake is just referred to as MuzzleBreakLight.
  • The Flash Hider originally provided only the neutral benefit of hiding a weapon's muzzle flash, but was given a 17% slower aiming spread decrease penalty with the 2015 Spring update.
  • The flash hider model used in both Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 is a VLTOR VC-1.
