Hello.

After talking with User Redskin-26, I decided I should start this Forum.

I believe there should be a new Userright, known as Custodian. What this right does is allows regular Users to move a file and suppress the redirect.

I think this right would be very handy, as I've seen many poorly names Files. We need more Users moving files, as good file names add consistency and neatness to the Wiki.

Thank you for reading, and please leave your thoughts. -- Madnessfan34537

As Madnessfan said, the Custodian Userright would be given just like the Chat Moderator Userright, it's used on many well known gaming wikis Runescape wiki, Call of Duty wiki, etc. The right would allow users to rename poorly named files like - [[File:Screenshot from 2012-08-19 12-15-16.png]] into something correctly named like [[File:BFBC2 GOL Bolt Cycling 1.png]] This would greatly increase neatness of the filespace would make things much easier for all editors. I think the implementation of this right would be greatly beneficial. Redskin-26 02:20, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure if to oppose or support as most images are properly named and only few (if any) have the 6636362527.jpg ect ect. Only a few slip past. However it would be nice to have one of these "Custodians" be on. But I'll have to think about this a tad bit more.--Gryphus.SQDSlopijoeAurelia's finestFalco.SQD 03:14, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

Aren't Trusted Users already this? F-22 Desert Raptor156th Tactical Fighter SquadronDEathgod65 - OMDF (Contact) VMFA-55F-35A RSAF

Just about anyone who can rename a page can fix the picture names, so there is no need for a new user right. 3rd Ranger New Orders - Edit At Will Newcomer's Ribbon TrustRibbon UserMonthRibbon 15:01, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

Normal users can not rename picture names. Qw3rty! (talk) 17:04, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
And that is why we have admins and their talk pages to call up these problems. I'm always up to any request. :P - Pedro9basket (talk) [ AdminRibbon Editor Award ] 10:50, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
Now you are completely destroying the point of the right, the Custodians would help lift some of the work load off of the Administrators. Redskin-26 19:23, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
We have TU's for that, and Admins here don't really have such a big load to begin with, specially in filespace; what they really need help on, is licensing properly or tagging for review for when I'm having a look on those, or completing the MS articles (things that anyone can do). I am a bit turn off due to vacation and stuff myself, while I am kind of in charge in that type of work. Any type of stuff of that matter, leave on my talk and I'll get it done.... - Pedro9basket (talk) [ AdminRibbon Editor Award ] 19:38, August 21, 2012 (UTC)

I think the real issue behind this is on Wikia's end. I'm pretty sure that only admins/b'crats can rename pages, and it would appear that the ranks Wikia has are unregistered users, registered users, rollbacks (trusted users), admins, and bureaucrats. Then it goes on to Wikia staff. But ignoring those as they aren't frequent fliers around here, I don't think it'd be possible to have a "custodian" userright within Wikia's system as it seems to be pretty much set in stone.

Like Pedro said, if you see something out of order, just bring it up to an admin. We're happy to help. I do understand however, that the image uploads can become cluttered, as my fellow b'crat has gone on crusades against bad images and licensing issues in the past. But if we have people going through and identifying bad images and marking them with the review template, that should make things easier as it automatically marks the images under the image review category (which is already pretty sizable from unlicensed pics) when placed on them. lol I did a crusade like that on my first day as admin, hundreds of licensing edits in one sitting. :P Feels like it needs to be done again.... Either way, call up to my attention and I'll deal with it properly. - Pedro9basket (talk) [ AdminRibbon Editor Award ] 19:51, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
