A Heavy Barrel is a weapon attachment used to increase a weapon's accuracy by reducing barrel whip.

Battlefield 3[]

"A Heavy Barrel and Match Rounds give much greater accuracy for aimed fire, but reduce accuracy when firing from the hip. The combo increases range and reduces bullet drop, but does not alter the damage."

— Battlelog description

The Heavy Barrel is an attachment in Battlefield 3 that reduces visual recoil, reduces ADS spread, and extends the maximum damage range. However, it greatly increses hipfire spread.

The 1.04 patch, first released on 27 March 2012, now makes the Heavy Barrel increase the maximum range of the weapon and increases the aimed accuracy. The minimum and maximum damages are unchanged. A hipfire spread penalty was added, but the exact penalty amount is weapon specific.[1]

Battlefield 4[]

"Heavy cold hammer forged barrel to improve aimed fire accuracy at the cost of additional muzzle climb, a penalty to stability."

— Battlelog description

The Heavy Barrel is a weapon attachment featured in Battlefield 4. It increases a weapon's long range accuracy, but increases its recoil. Currently this is in the form of a 50% reduction in the maximum ADS spread of a weapon at the cost of 33% increased recoil. Unlike its Battlefield 3 counterpart, it does not increase muzzle velocity to weapons attached with it, nor does it affect hipfire spread. This is paired best with weapons that already have low recoil to begin with, as some weapons become extremely unwieldly when paired with it, namely light machine guns and assault rifles. However, PC players will find this attachment far more beneficial than console users as recoil control with a mouse is far more effective than with a joystick.

Battlefield Hardline[]

BF1 Puzzle Piece This section is a stub. It is short and in need of fortification. Why not improve this section?

"Free floating heavy barrel improves aimed fire accuracy and slightly decreases recoil, but decreases maneuverability."

— Battlelog description

The Heavy Barrel is a weapon attachment featured in Battlefield Hardline.

Like in previous games, it improves accuracy by reducing the base spread. However, rather than increasing recoil, it slightly decreases recoil, allowing for more accurate fire. It does add a penalty to mobility due to its additional weight, making it somewhat less suitable for highly-mobile style.

Visually, the Heavy Barrel will make increase the length of the weapon's barrel. Certain weapons will receive a metal barrel shroud or an cosmetic only Flash Hider.

Short Barrel[]

The Short Barrel is a unique attachment for the 1887 shotgun. It increases the 1887's weapon spread, making it more effective in close quarters. Visually it has the opposite effect of the Heavy Barrel, cutting down the length of the 1887's barrel.

Trivia[]

Mastery Dog Tags for the P90, UMP and MX4 feature profiles of extended barrels.
