After Julian Dawes "cleaned up" Miami with his private security company, Preferred Outcomes, Kang was approached by Dawes over expanding his enterprise into Los Angeles. Kang and other crime lords were scheduled to meet Carl Stoddard at Roark's mansion to discuss becoming investors in Dawes' company. The day before the meeting, however, Nicholas Mendoza uncovered Kang's connection to Dawes with the help of Marcus Boone and ended his operations before assaulting Kang's warehouse. After eliminating Kang and his men, however, Nick discovered that a Sabotague had been planted underneath Kang's car. Finding a note earlier at the dealership from Lily Kang that was addressed to her husband, it told of how she had wanted to take Kang's car out to town.

After uncovering Lily Kang's affair with Roark, Nick concluded that the bomb he had found underneath Kang's car had been planted by Roark and Lily in an attempt to eliminate Kang so that they could take over Los Angeles together. Despite that, Nick had beaten them to it in Kang's warehouse.

After Kang's death, the other crime lords questioned Stoddard and his security, having been put under the impression that he had killed Kang himself. As a result, the meeting turned for the worst with weapons drawn until Stoddard and Roark were successfully calmed the situation, stating that Dawes' operation worked in Miami and that it could work in Los Angeles as well.
