"November 17, 1965 - Following the battle of the Ia Drang Valley, men from the 7th cavalry were sent to secure Landing Zone Albany. It is here that the U.S. realize the true resolve of the N.V.A. Elements of the 33rd N.V.A. waited as the Americans made their way to their destination where they were ambushed. The U.S. suffered heavy losses as a result."

— Map Briefing

Landing Zone Albany is a map featured in Battlefield Vietnam. It takes place during the Battle of Ia Drang, and is based on the North Vietnamese ambush on the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry at Landing Zone Albany during the battle.

The US starting control point, and also the southernmost control point. It spawns an M-110, an M113 and a M.U.T.T. Under NVA control it will spawn a BTR-60 and two 469s.

The Clearing[]

The NVA starting control point, to the northeast of LZ-X-ray. It spawns a BTR-60 and a 469. Under US control it will spawn a M113 and a M.U.T.T.

In singleplayer, the BTR-60 will spawn if LZ-X-ray is under US control.

The Knoll[]

The closest neutral control point from both starting points. It will spawn two M-46 artillery pieces. Additionally, depending on possession of this point, a spawn point for the enemy team (US Air Cav Crate if under NVA control, or NVA Tunnel Entrance if under US control) will be created near LZ Columbus.

LZ Columbus[]

An open area to the east of The Knoll, starting neutral. It will spawn a M113 and M.U.T.T. for the US, and a BTR-60 and 469 for the NVA. Additionally, if LZ Columbus is neutral or under US control, an NVA Tunnel Entrance will spawn in trenches opposite The Farm.

The Farm[]

A neutral control point consisting of a hut and a farmland. Under US control it will spawn a M.U.T.T, and under NVA control it will spawn a 469 and four M-46 artillery pieces. Additionally, if The Farm is neutral or under US control, a Tunnel Entrance will spawn near LZ Albany.

LZ Albany[]

The northernmost control point, starting neutral. Under US control a M113 and M.U.T.T. will spawn, and under NVA control a BTR-60, 469, and an M-46 artillery piece will spawn.

Trivia[]

  • In the beta version of Battlefield Vietnam, Landing Zone Albany, along with Ia Drang Valley, had underground tunnels under the only hut in the map. The model for these tunnels can be viewed via Battlecraft Vietnam, and is named tunneliadrang_m1. This leads to the answer why there is a tunnels description in the loading screen.
    • The same loading screen, description and music would later be used for Operation Cedar Falls, which has a complete tunnel system.
  • There was intended to be a seventh flag, named "The Mound" with ID LZA_base7. The string is currently only present in lexiconAll.dat and the map's files tell nothing about its intended location.
