The Beretta Model 92 is an Italian 9x19mm pistol developed in the 1970s as a replacement for the Italian military's M951 pistol. The Model 92 has a short-recoil operation with a double-action trigger. The 92F variant was entered in the United States military's XM9 and XM10 tests during the 1980s, narrowly beating out the Sig Sauer P226 to win the trials. The slightly modified 92FS would go on to be adopted as the standard handgun of the entire US military in 1985 under the designation M9, replacing the M1911.[1] It would serve as the standard sidearm for the Army, Marines, and Air Force until 2017, when it was replaced by the Sig Sauer P320.[2]

The 93R is a burst-fire variant of the Model 92 designed in the late 1970s.

The M9 appears in nine installments of the Battlefield series, including every modern-era Battlefield game to date. It uses a 12-round magazine in the Bad Company games and Battlefield 3: Aftershock, while it uses its standard 15-round magazine in all other appearances.
