The Drone elevator is an exploit that appears in Battlefield 2142, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3. It allows the player access to rooftops that normally cannot be reached, giving a significant height advantage. The exploit is also used to reliably access high areas that would otherwise require trip by air vehicle or spawn via beacon.

Although the tactic puts the players far away from objectives (vertically), certain maps do have high areas just above flags, such as Fall of Berlin and Camp Gibraltar in BF2142, and Caspian Border in BF3.

Once the enemy has discovered the roofing team, it is typically a short while before counter-roofers are sent after them, although sniper rifles and rocket launchers still prove effective from the ground.

Battlefield 2142Edit

ProcessEdit

1. Select either of the squad leader drones, as appropriate for squad size.
2. Activate the drone.
3. Use EMP to ground the drone. Jump on top of it while it is downed.
4. Elevate.

The tracking behavior for drones caused it to return above the squad leader's head. Because the squad leader was standing on top of it, a feedback loop caused the drone to lift the squad leader into the air indefinitely. The drone was not intended to lift players, hence the patch.

When combined with the Multi drone tactic, a squad leader could potentially lay a beacon on a rooftop.

Battlefield Bad Company 2Edit

In Bad Company 2,drone lifting methods is commonly use by sniper to reach to inaccessable area that can be a good sniper spot,though it might be done by a supportive teammate that controlling the UAV.

Battlefield 3Edit

In BF3, the MAV is used in place of 2142's squad leader drones, allowing other teammates to be elevated.

Due to complaints and just because the technique itself was unplanned, plus causing unfair advantages to people who did have an MAV, two patches attempted to remove the exploit by preventing players from standing or proning on top of the MAV.
