Cougar H MRAP IRL

A Cougar MRAP in real life

The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle is a light vehicle (not classified as an armored fighting vehicle) with added protection against improvised explosive devices, and the infantry ambushes that may follow. The hull of an MRAP is specifically designed to deflect explosions from buried munitions, riding higher above ground and featuring a sloped undercarriage rather than a traditional flat bottom.

Several vehicles used by the United States carry the MRAP designation. They're increasingly phasing out the HMMWVs in US-frontline-service. Among them is the Cougar, an American infantry mobility vehicle. The Cougar H Variant has four wheels.

SingleplayerEdit

The MRAP is seen in Tashgar when Tombstone finds Major Greenland. It is commandeered and used to proceed to the Russian-held Dam.

MultiplayerEdit

In Multiplayer, the MRAP is used by the USMC. It is the American counterpart to the Chinese ZFB05 and Russian SPM-3, and can carry four people, including the driver, one gunner (armed with an M2 Browning), and two passengers.

The gunner is the only weapon against infantry, capable of killing in four rounds; its damage is identical to the secondary weapon mounted on tanks and IFVs. Like Battlefield 3's Humvee, the gunner is not initially exposed in the vehicle, but he can be shot out if the back doors of the vehicle are blown off.

Two rockets can destroy the MRAP, and it is vulnerable to both enemy armor and aerial attacks, moreso on maps where the primary pathways are linear and offer little cover or alternative routes. Neither passenger has a weapon, and hence it has a lowered defensive capability.

A fresh MRAP has blast- and bullet-resistant doors and windows, but as mentioned above, they can be shot off. After the doors are destroyed, they can no longer be replaced, even by repairing the vehicles. Therefore, the occupants will remain exposed once the doors are destroyed.

Comparison Edit

The MRAP is the highest armored cars in the class, which makes driving through narrow space challenging. For example, sometimes it can stuck inside the parking lot of Siege of Shanghai.
