30 Mosin

The M1891/30 Mosin-Nagant in real life.

The 3-line Rifle M1891 (often called Mosin-Nagant) is a bolt-action rifle of Russian design, originally developed for the Imperial Russian Army. It was a response to the weakness of the single-shot Berdan rifle to guns developed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and fielded by the Ottoman Empire. Of three rifles submitted to evaluation in 1889, two designs by Léon Nagant of Belgium and Captain Sergei Ivanovich Mosin were chosen, with the superior components of each combined into a single design by 1891. The resulting weapon fired "3-line" caliber (7.62 mm) ammunition.

The M1891/30 is a variant designed in 1930 and was the standard issue bolt-action rifle of the Red Army from 1930 to 1945. After World War II and the introduction of more sophisticated bolt-action rifles, the M91/30 was sold throughout other communist countries such as China, North Korea, Vietnam and other states of the USSR. Many were used as sniper rifles later on.

Battlefield VietnamEdit

The M91/30 is a weapon featured in Battlefield Vietnam, issued uniquely to the Viet Cong Scout kit. It features a 6x scope meant for long-range engagements. It is a generally a very powerful rifle, being capable of killing in 2 body shots or in a single head shot. It is also very accurate, being highly capable of shooting a target that is over 200 meters away. When it comes to close quarters situations, the small cross hairs can be very effective for no-scoping shots, but it is still recommended to switch to a pistol due to the possibility of a missed shot. It can somewhat be considered an equivalent to the American M40.

Battlefield 1Edit

This item has a Codex entry: Mosin-Nagant M91
"The standard issue rifle of the Imperial Russian Army. The Mosin-Nagant is one of the most produced rifles ever, with over 37 million made."

— In-game description

The Mosin-Nagant M91 is a weapon introduced in Battlefield 1: In the Name of the Tsar expansion for the Scout class.[1]

There are two variants of the Mosin-Nagant M91: Infantry and Marksman. The Mosin-Nagant M91 Infantry is the basic variant of the rifle. The Mosin-Nagant M91 Marksman is equipped with a medium-power scope.

A notable aspect of gameplay with the Mosin is the variation of reload animations, with a unique set of animations at every level of capacity.

  • Reloading with four bullets in the magazine has the player character place one bullet in, naturally.
  • With three, the character puts in two bullets with one swift motion.
  • With two, the two aforementioned animations are combined.
  • Reloading with one bullet remaining shows a unique animation where the character ejects and catches the remaining bullet, then conducts an empty reload utilizing the stripper clip.
  • Reloading from empty is a standard stripper clip reload.

Battlefield 1Edit

  • Loading and ejecting a K Bullet with the Mosin-Nagant shows the character grabbing the bullet that is being ejected, which is a detail not featured with other single-shot rifles.
  • While loading the stripper clip, the character notably angles the final bullet upwards halfway through the animation to press down the remaining rounds, which is perhaps to prevent malignment of the bullet rims which is a common problem in reality with 7.62x54R ammunition in the rifle.
