In France, the National Gendarmerie (French: Gendarmerie nationale) is a branch of the French armed forces, in charge of public safety, with police duties among the civilian population. It also contains a military force and a special forces component. It is mandated to fulfill national security duties and duties in support of its parent ministry.

Battlefield 3

SingleplayerEdit
In Battlefield 3, the Gendarmerie appears as an enemy in Comrades. They are poorly armored and can be killed in about two to five shots. They are replaced by the GIGN at the end of the level.
Co-opEdit
The Gendarmerie appears in Drop 'Em Like Liquid at the beginning of the level. They can't be killed and are just for aesthetics. They carry UMP-45's. They also are seen surrounding the Euronext Stock Exchange with GIGN Soldiers during The Eleventh Hour, where they are scripted to throw smoke grenades, presumably to assist in the assault.
