The subject of this article, OTS-02 Kiparis, has been cut from the final version of a Battlefield game.
The OTs-02 Kiparis (Russian: Кипарис; English: Cypress) is a conventional blow-back operated Russian submachine gun. Originally designed by the TulaCentral Sporting and Hunting Arms Design Bureau (TSKIB SOO) in 1976 for the Soviet Army, the weapon was not adopted until the 1990s when the project was resurrected by the Internal Affairs Ministry. Adopted in 1995, the OTs-02 is issued to the MVD and Russian police, along with a few special operations groups.
Battlefield 2: Modern CombatEdit
The OTS-02 Kiparis was a weapon cut from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. It was intended to be the primary weapon of the Middle Eastern Coalition Spec Ops kit, but was eventually replaced by the AKS-74u in the final game. Renders of the weapon model were released and the weapon was still included in Modern Combat's Official Prima Guide as the MEC Spec Ops' weapon. It would have performed identically to the AKS-74u, having a high rate of fire but a short effective range.
