Repair Tool in real life.

The Repair Tool (Sometime called Drill Wrench or Powered Wrench) is a tool that is utilized to tighten or loosen hex bolts. It is used as a gadget featured in many installments of the Battlefield Series and is typically used to repair damaged vehicles and damage hostile ones.

Battlefield 2142

In Battlefield 2142, the Hoff-3000 Repair Tool takes the form of a blowtorch, but is used solely for repairing vehicles. It can repair sentry guns, supply crates, and other gadgets. Titan perimeter cannons and air defense guns can also be repaired by targeting their respective console in the Titan's hangar area. The Titan's reactor consoles and the A3-Goliath IFV's repair cells cannot be repaired, however.

The repair tool cannot be used in any offensive manner; it will not even "fire" when not near a valid target.

The repair tool can be upgraded via the Dystek Repair v2.0 unlock, increasing its repair rate and allowing an Engineer occupying a vehicle to repair nearby vehicles, similar to the Advanced Ammo Hub and Advanced Medic Hub upgrades.

An engineer sitting in an FAV's third seat (facing to rear, unprotected) can repair it while in motion. Engineers can also repair their own air transport by sitting in the fifth or seventh position and targeting the floor.

While repairing commander assets or Titan gun consoles, an "overheated" repair tool continues to repair at a slower rate, though the repair animation does not play. The tool still needs to fully recover following such use.

Battlefield: Bad Company

In Battlefield: Bad Company, the Repair Tool is the standard secondary gadget issued to the Support class. Unlike other installments, it does not overheat and can be used continuously. In addition to repairing vehicles, it can also be used to damage enemy vehicles, as well as objects and infantry.

Aiming the tool at a vehicle, even from a distance, will show its Armor strength in the reticle. This can be useful in scouting enemy armor assets or determining the status of friendly vehicles, as well as showing progress while repairing. While playing as a Support soldier, friendly vehicles in need of repair will be marked by a yellow wrench symbol, in first person as well as on the minimap.

It is possible to use the Repair Tool while in any seat of a vehicle that allows you to use your kit weapons, such as the fourth seat of a Vodnik, to repair the vehicle on the move. The tool can also repair Artillery pieces and emplacements such as the KORD HMG and TOW missile.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

"This power tool was developed by armed forces as a safety valve to enable engineers to make swift and efficient repairs to damaged front line vehicles without risking further assault by sending them back to the rear."

— In-game description

In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the Repair Tool takes the same form as the Repair Tool from the original Battlefield: Bad Company. Its primary role is to repair vehicles when damaged by enemy fire, but it can also be used to wound or kill enemy soldiers and damage enemy vehicles if necessary. Statistically, the repair tool is very similar to normal weapons as it uses a repair-per-shot basis. The repair tool repairs at a rate of 950 "shots" per minute, gaining 0.025 heat per "shot". Each shot repairs 6.5 health to an armoured vehicle, and the Repair Tool can fire continuously for 6 seconds before overheating. Once overheated, the repair tool has a 2-second cooldown, during which the Repair tool cannot be used.

Repairing friendly vehicles awards the player 20 experience points every few seconds, while repairing friendly squad vehicles awards the player 30 experience points every few seconds. An engineer in open/jump seats of vehicles such as the UH-60 Black Hawk and the HMMWV can also repair the vehicle without exiting it, but helicopters must be stationary before they can be repaired.

Battlefield Play4Free

In Battlefield Play4Free the Repair Tool is a gadget available for the Engineer kit. It works similarly to its counterpart in the Bad Company series and also uses the same model. It is the main way to repair vehicles (the other being Field Repair Vehicle) and its repair speed can be increased spending points in the Vehicle Repair Tool training option.

Battlefield 3

"A hand held oxy-fuel welding and cutting torch provides the engineer with the ability to both Repair Friendly and Damage Enemy vehicles."

— Battlelog description

The Repair Tool is a gadget available in Battlefield 3 for the Engineer kit. It takes the form of a blowtorch. It is mainly used to repair damaged vehicles, but can also be used to sabotage enemy vehicles. When part of the player's kit, it also allows them to remove enemy explosives by holding the Reload button.

It can damage enemy vehicles and can kill enemy infantry, given enough time. Following the April 2012 server patch, the damage rate of the repair tool (and the EOD Bot's onboard tool) against vehicles was significantly increased.

As it occupies the Gadget 2 slot, it can be replaced by M15 Anti-tank Mines or the EOD Bot.

Passengers in the unarmored transports (Growler ITV or VDV Buggy), scout helicopters or air transports can repair their own vehicles in motion, and they earn points for doing so, which wasn't possible in the early stages of the game's release. Points can also be earned if repairing in the same seats while being the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Trivia

Battlefield: Bad Company

  • The tool can also be used to create firing points in concrete barriers, and, with enough persistence, can even be used to breach through the wall itself.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

  • In a contest for fan-made achievements/trophies, the winning entry entailed getting a headshot with the Repair Tool. The achievement/trophy is called "The Dentist".
  • When players attempt to acquire the "Dentist" achievement/trophy, they will have to drill for about two seconds upon the unaware enemy's head. This is easy to achieve on UAV-1 operators, as they will be unable to react or move out of range.
  • There is a glitch which may cause you to damage your own vehicle. If you use it to damage an enemy's vehicle, then steal the vehicle from them, when you first exit the vehicle the tool will still cause damage. This can be overcome by entering the vehicle and exiting a second time, at which point the tool will once again repair.

Battlefield 3

  • During the Alpha, the Repair Tool was a two-handed model, with the fuel source in the left hand, the torch in the right hand, and a flexible tube linking the two.
  • Since the Back to Karkand update, one of the new Assignments requires the player to get a kill with the Repair Tool to unlock the G53.
  • Another assignment requires the player to destroy a vehicle with the Repair Tool to unlock the QBZ-95B.
  • The Repair Tool can leave black markings on objects, allowing it to be used to write or draw.
