SKS Carbine
The SKS (Russian: Самозарядный карабин системы Симонова, Samozaryadniy Karabin sistemy Simonova; English: Self-loading Carbine of [the] Simonov system) is a Soviet-made semi-automatic rifle designed by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov in 1944. Though the Soviets quickly phased out the SKS in favor of the AK-47 assault rifle by Mikhail Kalashnikov, many were sold to communist nations such as China, North Vietnam and North Korea.
Chinese-made copies were also produced and used in the Vietnam War, known as the Type 56.
Battlefield Vietnam
The Type-56 is issued as an option for the Heavy Assault and Scout kits of the NVA and Viet Cong factions. It has a 10 round magazine, a relatively high firecap, high recoil and good damage. It can usually kill in 2-3 rounds to the body and extremities, or a single head shot. Its high recoil can make long-range shooting difficult, but prone reduces the recoil to a more controllable level. It has a fairly high rate of fire and is, therefore, effective at close ranges, although its small magazine capacity can be a hindrance to combat effectiveness, and its reload time is relatively long. Compared to its counterpart, the M14 rifle, it has a much higher firecap, but is at a disadvantage in accuracy.

Battlefield Play4Free
The SKS is a weapon featured in Battlefield Play4Free. It shares similar traits and patterns with the M14 EBR behaving like an intermediate between an assault rifle and a sniper rifle.

Battlefield 3

The SKS is a weapon featured in Battlefield 3. It fulfills the role of a medium-range DMR. It takes 3–4 shots to the body to kill an enemy, or 1–2 shots to the head. With the Physical Warfare Pack, the player gets immediate access to it along with the Flash Suppressor which is exclusive to the pack. Otherwise, it is unlocked at 71,000 Recon score.
Because of the impressive rate of fire, moderate recoil and high magazine capacity, it is far more effective in close quarters than most other sniper rifles. Attaching a medium-range scope or sight (or using none at all) will allow for easier targeting at the medium and close ranges, as well as removing the scope glint that can draw unwanted attention. Because it has good rate of fire and magazine capacity, it is well-suited for ranged suppression.
Battlefield Premium members have access to the Woodland Stripe camo for the SKS or the Desert Stripe camo if they have completed the SKS Specialist assignment.
As of the September 4, 2012 patch, the Heavy Barrel can be unlocked for the SKS by accumulating 300 kills.

The SKS is a weapon featured in Battlefield 4, and it is the third DMR to be unlocked.
It behaves very much like its counterpart from Battlefield 3, boasting a low recoil for a DMR as well as a medium firerate and average damage, being able to kill most targets with three hits, although it is less powerful than other DMRs, tied to QBU-88. Its velocity and maximum range is the slowest and shortest of all DMRs, but its low recoil makes it an excellent weapon in most situations, even in close quarters if the user has good aim and a quick trigger finger. The recoil profile of SKS is straighter than most DMRs, but bounces significantly side-by-side, which is helped by using the Compensator attachment.
The SKS unlocks the Russian attachments, and can only acquire the US and Chinese variants through Battlepacks. The SKS has the highest fire rate out of the DMRs. It is good for close quarters as it takes 3 shots to drop an enemy across all ranges, it takes up to 4 shots to drop an enemy at long range provided if the enemy has Defensive Upgrade Path equipped.
SKS has a velocity slightly faster the M40A5, but the SKS still has the slowest velocity and shortest maximum range of all DMRs, just before the ACE 53 SV.

Trivia
Battlefield 3
- In Battlelog's description, it says the SKS has a thirty round magazine, but in-game it has only twenty rounds.
- The SKS is the only Sniper Rifle capable of equipping the Flash Suppressor or Heavy Barrel.
- The SKS Mastery Dog Tag shows an SKS version resembling the Type 56.
