In Battlefield 1942, the Shōkaku is the Imperial Japanese Navy's aircraft carrier. It has 3 spawn points: one in the back near the bridge, one in the center for easy access to planes and one in the front for easy access to Daihatsu-class landing crafts. A6M Zeroes, D3A Vals and Daihatsus spawn regularly on the carrier. It has a few 40mm Bofors on both sides of the carrier to prevent bombers from attacking the carrier. It has a netting on both sides as well, so that players can climb on the carrier. A player can climb up to the bridge and pilot ship. It will take a moment to gain some speed, but it will be able to move at a decent speed shortly. Though this can be done, the Shokaku is best to be escorted by surface ships, as Aircraft Carriers are vulnerable to almost anything when unprotected.

It is a direct equivalent to the USN Yorktown-class aircraft carrier.

AppearancesEdit

Battlefield 1943Edit

In Battlefield 1943, the Shōkaku-class acts as the starting spawn point for the IJN on Wake Island, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea. Unlike Battlefield 1942, it is completely stationary, harbors only 2 A6M Zeroes, is void of netting and is invulnerable. 4 LCVPs spawn at the rear of the ship, and there are 2 40mm Bofors positioned at the rear. On Coral Sea, 2 Shokakus are present and they do not harbor any Daihatsus.

TriviaEdit

  • In Battlefield 1943, the second Shōkaku-class carrier on Coral Sea is most likely the Zuikaku.
  • In Battlefield 1943, the Shokaku-class carriers do not look like the Shōkaku-class from from Battlefield 1942, but instead resembles the Shoho-class aircraft carriers.
