The Type 79 is the first Chinese made submachine gun that was not based off another country's design, unlike many of China's weapons at the time it was designed. It fires the Russian 7.62x25mm Tokarev round that was originally made for the Tokarev TT-33 used in World War II.
In Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, the Type 79 is featured as the primary weapon of the PLA's Special Ops Kit, equipped with a suppressor and scope. The weapon has a high rate of fire and is fairly accurate, but it does less damage compared to the Assault's QBZ-95, allowing it to preform favorably in close quarters but not be quite as effective at range.
