here's some rules for future reference as well: no using other nations, keep everything civil, be realistic, don't do anything out-of-character, use the main channel for public dealings and major events, and private channels for out of character (OOC) and under-the-table dealings.

Algorithm for battlesEdit

A bit of an alpha-version of the battle algorthm, yet to be tested.

Basic formulaEdit

The algorithm can be broken down into a small, easy-to-remember formula:

$Ability = Zeal + Morale + Efficiency$ , or A = Z + M + E.

Zeal: Zeal is the physical desire and capability to fight.
Morale: Morale is the mental capability to fight.
Efficiency: Efficiency is the preparedness to fight.

The Ability of each unit is measured as a single bloc at the brigade or regiment level. A battle is treated as a separate event from the rest of the world, a conflagration between two specific units. The exception is when reinforcements are called in from outside, in which case that unit is marked as separate to the first unit in the battle (ie, 1st Regiment and 2nd Regiment).

StagesEdit

Each battle is broken up into stages.

First movesEdit

The first moves are the first part of any battle. However, these will not be repeated if the battle drags on into the next week.

Opening movement/deployment: A random chance will determine who recieves the "good positioning" bonus. (+5 efficiency)
Reconnaisance: Determines who recieves "good intel" and "bad intel" bonuses.
Skirmishes/probing maneuvers: First casualties, moves onto next phase of battle.

CombatEdit

Full out, complete combat, the main portion of the battle, and most decisive part.

Gunbattles: Casualties.
Decisive/indecisive fighting: Determines number of casualties for both sides for that phase, and whether or not the battle will continue onto another week.
Breakthrough: If fighting is decisive, determines casualties for the "losing" side. (+5 morale winner, -2 Morale loser & -5 efficiency)
Battle drags on...: If the fighting is indecisive, both sides lose morale and efficiency, but in scale to which side is "winning" and "losing" (Losing: -5 morale, -5 efficiency, Winning: -2 morale, -2 efficiency)

WithdrawEdit

If the end of the combat phase was decisive fighting, then the "losing" side withdraws. If the ability of the losing side is at least 90% of the winning side, then casualties are significantly less (0.05).

However, if the ability is between 65% and 90%, a "general withdraw" occurs. Wherein, the casualties are 0.075.

If the ability of the losing side is between 65% and 20% of the victor, a "total rout" occurs, and the losing side loses 0.15 of its forces.

If the ability is less than 20%, then the entire unit vanishes.

ModifiersEdit

A number of modifiers can alter the outcome of the battle. These can be separated into the "static" modifiers and the "random" modifiers.

StaticEdit

Static modifiers are things like why soldiers are fighting, or terrain effects.

Home turf - Soldiers are fighting to defend the home country. (Zeal +5)
Distant land - Soldiers are far from home. (Zeal -2, morale -2)
Familiar terrain - Soldiers are in terrain that is similar to their home country's. (Morale +2)

Attacking mountains/over a river/through a jungle - Unit is attempting to fight through difficult terrain (-5 efficiency, -2 zeal)
Defending rough terrain - Unit is defending an area of rough terrain from attack. (+7 efficiency, +2 morale)
Fighting in a city - Urban combat. (+2 efficiency for defender, +2 morale for defender)

As a result of the collapse of the Euro in 2021, following a previously steady and slow decline, the European Union has dissolved. Nationalist feelings have welled up in the former union states, leading to a large percentage of Europe being staunchly conservative and reactionary, minus the United Kingdom

Post Argentine WarEdit

The borders of Brazil were adjusted to include all the land north and east of the Plata river, including the whole of Uruguay. Paraguay was folded into Bolivia, and Arica was transferred from Chile to Peru.

EquipmentEdit

Following a program of military modernization, standardization, and refitting for the growing Brazilian and SAEMA armed forces, the Universal Standard Equipment Layout was adopted. The IMBEL-manufactured M58 rifle (codenamed Excalibur) was produced to be the standard service rifle of SAEMA forces, replacing the much older and aging MD rifle. A first in the range of service rifles, the M58 utilizes both a bullpup layout and caseless 7mm ammunition.

IMBEL also began to produce licensed, modernized copies of the Steyr-Hahn M1912 handgun that had previously been the standard sidearm of the K.u.K.; although its general action and internal systems were retained from the M1912, the new service handgun (officially referred to as the Universal Service Pistol, or PSU) is a more modular form, with the same steel framework as the original, but artificial grips. Additionally, the fixed magazine was replaced by a detachable one, chambered in the less common 9 x 23mm Steyr ammotype.

The Universal Equipment Platform (Plataforma de Equipamento Universal, PEU) was also developed during this process to give individual soldiers greater modularity in combat and provide for easier swapping of equipment in a given situation. PEU is modeled after France's FÉLIN, and is thus comprised of many of the same or comparable components.

At the heart of the system is is the Brazilian-designed CIU, or Unified Information Framework.

HelmetEdit

The helmet of choice for PEU is a Brazilian-made, licensed copy of the French SPECTRA helmet. The helmet is composed of three components: head protection, communication headset and optronic equipment. The ballistic shell optimises protection and load-bearing ergonomics (weight distribution). It can accommodate various items required for the mission (facial protection screens) and its shape is compatible with all firing positions of the weapons used.

A lightweight, integrated protective shield protects the infantryman from various threats (wind, rain, dust, UV). Non-linear earplugs afford auditory protection. The NBC mask can be equipped with a filter cartridge or linked to the ventilation powerpack. A tube built into the NBC mask can be used to take in liquids (water, food).

The communication headset is linked to the radio. It holds the microphone and earpiece and works by bone vibrations (bone conduction transducer). It works independently from the helmet and can therefore remain in operation when the helmet is removed.

The optronic equipment is composed of mission interface overshell integrating the optronics, head camera (EBCMOS light intensification technology), image display units (OLED technology) allowing data and icons transmitted on the bus system to be displayed, images and video coming from the weapon or the head camera. The image display unit is fixed to the helmet: its screen can be brought into line with infantryman's eye. When not in use, it can be folded away so as not to hinder the soldier.

ClothingEdit

The uniform in use with PEU is comprised of a lightweight, flexible, heavy-grade thread pattern. It is constructed of an as-yet unrevealed material, although it is described as being strong and relatively comfortable. The uniform is equipped with a number of large pockets for carrying a number of magazines for all of the soldiers' weapons. Kevlar and ceramic plating is directly integrated into the combat uniform, as is the load-bearing combat webbing that is used to attach many of the excess items that are also equipped during combat, such as the holster and water system.

WeaponsEdit

The standardized M58 is the integrated rifle of choice for PEU elements. It is a modular, powerful rifle, and when fully synced with a particular soldier's equipment, CIU can project ballistic trajectories over a virtual landscape, allowing the soldier to gauge the appropriate firing position.

The M964 is undergoing a complete modification in an attempt to fully integrate it with the CIU system.

The PSU was designed with integration in mind.

Slopijoe (Poland)Edit

Poland was roughly spared from the downfall of the Euro due to it never having adopted that currency at all. The population of Poland has remained fairly constant (having increased to just over 42 million by 2050)

Poland has Stonehenge, a huge silo that is capable of disarming/intercepting ICBM's

Charcoal121(Germany)Edit

The fall of the European Union had heavy effects on most of the other members of the former EU, however -- Germany in particular nearly imploded, with its own economy's strength being what held the rest of the Euro up in the first place. Without warning, separatist groups, particularly in Sorbian-held areas and in the Southern states (especially Bavaria) began to militarize, and Germany entered a prolong state of civil war -- until NATO stepped in to stabilize the situation. Following the recovery, Germany's reinstated Mark is still a strong currency on the world stage. The population of Germany in the south was wracked by the Civil War, and the Sorbians were all but eradicated, but overall Germany finally managed to break 95 million by 2050. In Spring of 2050, various Socialist groups were able to win a majority in Parliament after widespread riots. Relations between Brazil and Russia were strengthened, and tensions rose between Germany and Poland after the latter enacted isolationist policies. Russia and Germany's relationship soured after the former began a campaign in North Africa with the US and Poland. Germany established bases in the Middle East, South-West Africa, and in Egypt along the Suez Canal with Brazil.

UK13(United states)Edit

The United States was not untouched by the collapse of the Euro -- all currencies were dragged down by its failure. However, the US remained strong, and the dollar has become the strongest currency on earth. as is typical of first-world nations, the population has mostly stagnated, only in 2050 reaching 375 million. As with Germany, in Canada a particularly nasty separatist revolt erupted in the areas in and around Quebec -- with rioting already near to bursting in the UK proper (keeping the UK's forces from stamping out the rebels) and the Quebecois matching the Canadian forces man-to-man, the United States (for its own safety and at the behest of the UK) stepped in to deal with the rebels. As a result of the ensuing war, the US pressed for transferrence of Canada to US jurisdiction -- talks of annexation spread. Although it was not without protest, the UK relented, opting to instead deal with its own stability problems. The US, along with Poland and Russia, began a campaign in North Africa sparked by supposed terrorist activity and hostage taking, and controls most of North Africa. In 2055 US began leaving North Africa, the US Foreign Amphibious Corps was created, and a Forgotten Army sniper fails an assasination attemt on the newly elected President and the sniper is swiftly executed. US also have began or finished Project Liberty,Controlled Battlefield,Enduring Resistance, and Glory Hound. They also completed the revived Future Force Warrior.

Russia took advantage of the situation in Europe to annex Belarus and invade Ukraine. In the aftermath of a drawn-out and bloody war, Russia emerged victorious, if viewed with distrust by the other nations. The Ruble regained some of its lost strength, and the Russian population by 2050 had swelled to 210 million.

Qw3rty!(China)Edit

China continued the process of liberalization throughout the early half of the 21st century. Relations between China and the western world continued to warm until the United States backed away from the ROC - PRC conflict, leaving the ROC to be annexed into the PRC and effectively ending the civil war. Following the collapse of the EU, China held its first truly free votes, and has since reformed into a more republican government

Trevor The Scout(UK)Edit

The United Kingdom was adversely affected by the collapse of the European Union. It had adopted the Euro as its currency fairly late in the currency's lifetime due to increasing inflation of the Pound Sterling. The Commonwealth nations followed. However, when the Euro fell and the EU collapsed, the British underwent severe unrest throughout the country -- and eventually lost control over Canada to the USA in order to save themselves and Canada's ass. The UK is still suffereing from unrest (as is evidenced by the submission to the annexation of Guyana, but is recovering, however slowly.

H2seasprite(sweden)Edit

Sweden was one of the more culturally homogenous states of the European Union, but still suffered from the collapse of the Euro. As a result of the collapse, the GDP plunged well below the average for the pre-collapse world, and subsequently began to use a steel-backed currency instead of the Euro. As the most populous of the Scandinavian nations, Sweden was in a position to profit from the collapse of the other nations within its sphere, and absorbed Norway into Sweden proper, while keeping Denmark under blockade until it conceded defeat and submitted to a personal union under Sweden. By 2050, the population of this nation had reached 40 million, and its naval power was almost unequaled by other european nations apart from GReat Britain

The Argentine WarEdit

Following the tensions between Argentina and Chile with the SAEMA nations in the last half of 2050, Argentina and Chile attempted to invade and cripple SAEMA. However, within mere months, the plan had backfired so horrifically that Argentina nearly lost an entire division. Chile found itself overwhelmed and ill-prepared to fight the superior Peruvian forces. As a result of this war, Brazil annexed uruguay and all of the Argentine and Paraguayan lands north or east of the Plata river. Paraguay as a whole was folded into Bolivia to provide SAEMA with a buffer state against the Southern Alliance. Arica was transferred from Chile to Peru.

Post war, however, Peru invaded and annexed Chile.

Sudanese WarEdit

Northern Sudan, following years of border tension, invaded Southern Sudan. Although the North almost overran the South, intervention by the SAEMA nations and Germany managed to turn the tide of the war, and within a half-year, Northern Sudanese forces had been broken and routed. As a result of the Treaty of Khartoum, About half of Northern Sudan's land was granted to South Sudan, with the rest being de facto annexed by Egypt. South Sudan became recognized as the only Sudan thereafter.

Because the lands annexed by South Sudan were predominantly Arab, most of the population was deported with the aid of Brazilian forces, into Egypt.

SAEMA intervention in Iran (Persian Civil War)Edit

Following an unprovoked attack upon Brazilian cargo helicopters in the midst of the Iranian Civil War, SAEMA invaded Iran. In a little more than a half a year, joint SAEMA forces had deployed into and defeated the Persian loyalist forces, and the new Iranian Republican government officially joined SAEMA.
