As I hope you know, today is the 5th anniversary of this site’s founding by Arks93 on February 22, 2006.
I have been editing this site, on and off, for nearly the last three years, and in that time I’ve seen this site grow and change beyond recognition. But I think it’s safe to say that Battlefield Wiki owes everything to its dedicated and passionate team of editors and I think that makes it even more of an achievement that everyone who has ever edited this site should feel very proud of as we celebrate our tremendous achievements.
But I have to say, of the last three, in fact, five, years, by far the most enjoyable and successful period has been in this last year. Without everybody who’s joined since this time last year, mainly from, it has to be said, CoD Wiki, this site wouldn’t be what it is now. In fact, I dread to think what it would be. I think we all have to admit, we owe you our continued existence.
But more than anything, the message I want people to take from this post is not just how far we have come, but how promising our future is. With SSD now a fellow bureaucrat and an excellent team of admins and editors to back us up, this site has a great future ahead of it. I am especially excited by the opportunities presented by the next few months by the ongoing classification surge and by Battlefield 3 later this year (and hopefully, a membership surge as a result).
Battlefield Wiki is one of the oldest (just over 1200th out of around 150,000, although I don’t know how many of those first 1200 or so are still active) and, in my opinion, best, wikis in the history of Wikia. But let’s not let today just be a day of reflection, let’s dedicate the day to the future. I certainly hope, in fact, I know, that this site will continue to be great for a long time to come.
I am truly proud to have been a part of this site over the past five years. I think PresidentEden78 said it best when he said: ‘This wiki has allowed me to meet great people and really relish in a wonderful series’. I couldn’t agree more. Every single member of this site is special and it has been a total and utter privilege to have edited alongside each and every one of you, and I’m sure that for the next few months (probably my last) that will continue to be the case.
