You may recall I retired over 2 years ago. Somehow, here I am again. I did originally just stop by to do a bit of requested housekeeping, but as always it's ended up being more. I can't stay as I have a dissertation to finish in the next 3 weeks.
However, I thought the community should be updated on a few things. As Slopijoe and 3RDRANGER have both announced their intentions to retire, we are without a permanent, active b'crat. A vote for replacement(s) is ongoing at BF:RFA (it's not a head-to-head contest, either user nominated just has to pass their own vote to be upgraded).
However, it has been brought to my attention that PSKwhirled was upgraded to bureaucrat rights by Slopijoe before he left. I thought it was best to make this statement somewhere public as it is important: he had no right to. Site policy dictates that b'crats must be elected to their positions by the community, not on the decision of a single user.
I have recommended to PSK that he run at BF:RFA, retaining his rights if he passes. Should he decide not to run, or loses his vote, he must be stripped of his rights. I want to stress that this is nothing personal against PSK - it is just a very unfortunate situation, and one that I sincerely wish I had not been put in.
Update: I have personally nominated PSK at BF:RFA so he can retaining his rights if he passes. Hopefully we won't have to discuss the miserable scenario of a failed vote in this case...
With the situation in mind, I have informed Slopijoe of his mistake and, although he is retiring, I have issued him an official warning for abuse of privileges. He is lucky that I am considering this an oversight on his part, otherwise he would be blocked, per BF:BLOCK, and facing a community vote to strip him of his position.
Thank you for your time
