The UZI is an Israeli compact submachine gun developed in the late 1940s by Major Uziel "Uzi" Gal, and adopted by the Israeli Defense Force in the early 1950s. The UZI is a blowback operated, open-bolt submachine gun made primarily of stamped steel with a controllable firerate of about 600 RPM. Praised for its ease of use, low upkeep, and cheap manufacturing cost, the UZI would see usage with militaries and law enforcement all over the world well into the start of the 21st century.

The original UZI could be chambered for either the 9x19mm Parabellum or .45 ACP cartridges and fired from a 32 round box magazine. The Mini UZI and Micro UZI are further compacted variants of the UZI, replacing the regular UZI's collapsing stock with a side-folding stock, using shorter 20 round magazines, and having rates of fire of 950 and 1200 RPM, respectively.

The UZI appears in five games in the Battlefield series. The UZI is modeled after the Mini-UZI in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and Battlefield Heroes and is modeled after the regular UZI in all other games. In the Bad Company games, the UZI uses the 900 RPM firerate of the Mini UZI.
