MKV IRL

A computer rendering of the Multiple Kill Vehicle

The Multiple Kill Vehicle (MKV) was a planned US kinetic energy-based warhead that was designed to intercept and destroy multiple ballistic missiles, including possible decoy targets. During an actual hostile ballistic missile attack, the carrier vehicle with its cargo of small kill vehicles would have maneuvered into the path of an enemy missile. Using tracking data from the Ballistic Missile Defense System and its own seeker, the carrier vehicle would have dispensed and guided the kill vehicles to destroy any warheads or countermeasures. In April 2009, the Pentagon's budget was announced to be reshaped, effectively terminating the MKV program.

The MKV appears in Battlefield 4: Final Stand as the XD-1 Accipiter.

Battlefield 4

"An experimental combat drone. Use to spot and engage light targets from the air. This device will self-destruct when it runs out of fuel to prevent recovery by the enemy."

— In-game description

The XD-1 Accipiter is a Battle Pickup to be featured in Battlefield 4: Final Stand. It is a predecessor to the SD-8 Accipiter drone used by squad leaders in Battlefield 2142.

It flies similarly to the MAV, being capable of hovering and stopping its own movement, but with the limited battery life of the SUAV. Currently in CTE, the XD-1 Accipiter uses the view model and projectile splash from the M197 cannon (used by gunners on the AH-1Z Viper), with the firing sound, flash, and damage of the M134 Minigun. Like the SUAV and MAV, it is capable of road-killing targets. It can be locked onto with anti-air missiles, such as Stinger missiles or Heat Seekers.
